Pregant Mare and Gelding

Question
Hi
My Gypsy Cob Mare is pregnant again and I was going to turn her out with her son (her first foal) who is now gelded. Both horses are very quiet and affectionate to one another. The guy with the stallion advised me not to do this, saying that geldings can be bad news with pregnant mares. I had never heard this before. In the last few months of the term I always keep her separate to avoid any risk of kicking, but now at the beginning of the term, it would seem fine. Can you advise me what you would do?
Many Thanks

Answer
If your mare and her now gelded son get along great, then you should have nothing to worry about during the early part of the pregnancy.  Just keep a close eye as you would if you turned her out with anyone.  Another thing you can do, if the option is available, is to turn them out in paddocks side by side.  This way there is a fence to keep them from getting into too much trouble.  Meanwhile they still have connection.
