Vaginal Bleeding

Question
My 15 year old Arabian mare has been experiencing vaginal bleeding for approximately 3-4 weeks now. I have consulted my local vet at the first sight of blood. Their diagnosis was an accidental bump against a foriegn object. No abrasions of any kind were found during the vaginal scope or in the surrounding area. No other symptoms have been observed. She eats an drinks regularly, bowel movements are regular in frequency and consistancy and there are no males in the area so pregnancy is not possible, and she shows no sign of tenderness to the area or any where else for that matter. I'm not sure what to do or whom to contact next?

Answer
Hi Ashley -

Sorry to hear about this, it must be frustrating not seeing any resolution.  If this was my mare, I would seek out an equine vet that specializes in repro.  Not sure where you live or if hauling her is an option but this would be my strong recommendation.  Nothing against your vet but just like human doctors, you can't expect your family practice doc to be able to take care of all of your dental care, heart issues or ob-gyn stuff ... I'd get a specialist for this.

Hang in there Ashley!
