horse holding head down

Question
My usually high spirited and alert 3 1/2 yr. old gelding is holding his head down with his nose almost to the ground. He won't let me touch his right ear. He was fine on Saturday and I noticed this behavior on Monday. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Nancy,

My only advice is that you immediately call your vet and have him take a look.  The ear may have an absess or something may have gotten down inside it.

Hope the vet can find the problem quickly and that your baby will be OK.

Sincerely,
Dorothy
