Stopping The Bite

Question
Hey there!

I sent you questions before about training the mini horses Snippers and Toughy. I thought you'd like to hear that Snippers now leads PERFECTLY without the lunge whip! I am so proud of him :)

The problem is, he still nips and bites. Any idea how to stop this?

Answer
Hello again! I am soo happy that things are going well for all of you! You are doing very well with training and you should be proud of yourself too. Good Job! You just need to be very firm with him. I have heard that keeping a water gun or squirt bottle and squirting them when they go to bite or nip will get them to stop. You have to squirt them in the mouth/muzzle right when they go to bite or nip. Just a squirt or two. You have also slap him on the lips or chest or shoulder. I have also heard "acting" like a alpha mare will get them to stop. When he goes to bite at you squeal like a mare would and then charge at him and stomp you feet at him and even reach out with your hand and bite him back. I know it sounds weird but its worth a try. If you are leading him jerk hard on the rope and tell him know then back him up a few steps. Give those things a try and let me know how it goes. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks again!
