Question
my farrier pointed this out to me yesterday. we live in central fla. where there has been no rain, no grass. i suppose i have been over-feeding?  what to do to make this problem go away? she is a 8 year old palamino.  not a lot of riding or exercising due to a back injury on me.  HELP

Answer
Hello Irvin,
can you describe to me what your horse looks like in general? When your farrier pointed out a "cresty neck" did he mean a tick, firm hard crest under your horse's mane? does you horse also have "bulges" elsewhere and has it always looked like this?
When you say "no grass", do you mean none at all, i.e. your horse lives on dirt and is fed hay and grain or is there a little but not too good of grass?
It would be very helpful to me if you could give me the details of what your horse gets to eat every day and how long he/she has been getting this foot. Does you horse live outside all day long with access to whatever grows where you live or does h/she live in a stall part of the time? If you could let me know all these things, it will be easier for me to let you know how you could manage the weight of your horse in a way that is good from him/her and not deprive of anything the horse needs.

Take care,
Christine
