QuestionI have 2 in a 20 gallon acquarium. They are about 4 " long. They recently had an eye problem but are now well. I raised their water temp. to 82 degrees. They used to eat mostly red meat and krill, but now like peas, sweet potato and greens also. They are eating well. I am going to get them a new uva/uvb light. They have a rock and floating platform they aren't using much. What else could I do so they will bask more?
AnswerUVB lighting generally does not offer warmth. Offer about 90F at the basking site and they will probably swarm to it.
20 gallons is a bit small. To prevent problems and promote natural behaviors, we suggest about 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length- so your guys should be in about a 100 gallon tub or tank. It would probably also go a long way to helping prevent future eye infections.
Red meat is not a real hot diet item- there are better (and cheaper) choices available.
