Question
I have a yellow belly turtle and its about 2 inches big but the algae has been getting out of control is the tank is there something I can do to make it slow down? is there some kind of algae eater I could put in the tank that won't harm my turtle? like some kind of snail?

Answer
Hello Carolyn,

Many people seem to have the algae problems with their turtles. Algae seems to thrive in such warm environments.

Algae eaters and snails will not harm your turtle, HOWEVER snails and fish are a natural food source for turtles in the wild and they will most likely become dinner. I don't suggest you get them to feed him either as many fish/snails have parasites that can be passed to him this way.

Make sure you have a strong filter, clean the tank regularly and just keep cleaning.

Sorry there isn't any other solution.

Good luck
