Jeffory my softshell

hello, i have a little guy named Jeffory for about 3 years, he is a Florida soft shell turtle. my kids recently asked me how i knew he was a boy when i named him. well i'm stumped, i was just guessing but now i am intrested, how can i tell? what are the signs or marking differences? is he a she? should she be a jeffrina? lol thanks for your time

If you look at the tail is it short nad stubby or long and thick
can you post a pix
If the tail is long then odds are it is male.
If it has long nails male
the long nails are to be able to hold the female during mating
