Question
Hi, I own a Pacman frog, also known as the South american horned frog. I do not know which subspecies it is only that Petsmart labeled him simply as a "Pacman Frog" where there where the choices "Albino Pacman" frog or simply "Pacman Frog".I have owned him for about a year, and recently, discovered that there seems to be some sort of lump. Being incredibly fat and round by nature, it took me a while (I can only guess) to notice, that the weight, or roundness wasn't distributed equally. I thought it was merely the way he was sitting, that the soft stuff had merely shifted over to one side.over the course of the week, it got worse, as his left side began to not only look less, but positively deflated. It was wrinkly, and hung down, while the right side continued to swell. I fed him the day after I noticed, and he ate a mealworm. Two days ago, I noticed that his left pupil (the deflated side) was noticeably smaller than the right. Yesterday, I tried to feed him, and he wouldn't eat.  At first, I deduced that it was merely a digestion issue, and would take care of itself. afte continuation, I looked it up, and still, under the same inclination, placed him in a waterbowl for a very long period of time, thinking that that would "loosen him up" (as I had read this would help). I had done this before under different circumstances and it worked admirably. He did not defecate. Now, his veins are showing through the skin on the right side. I have no idea what to do.

Answer
John,  It sounds like he either has an impaction which I think is the most likely thing or possible parasites. First do not overfeed your amphibian. Obesity is a killer for them....it will cause liver failure and eventual organ breakdown. Check his back legs for yellow almost stripes. As far as the impaction go to your local pharmacy and get mineral oil and an eyedropper. Give him a small eyedropper full. This is usually a pretty good remedy but he is in pretty bad shape. He may be impacted bad enough he may need surgery. Either way if he does not pass waste in 24 hours after the mineral oil I would get him to a Vet fast. Please keep me updated. Good Luck, Tina
