Question
So I took my bearded dragon in to the vet because he had not eaten on his own in about a month ..and has a very yellow pale color to him all the time with a black beard. At first the doctor thought it was liver failure due to his vey yellow pale color.I received the blood tests and fecal exam results and everything was normal she stated. The one thing that was very weird was his Blood Glucose at 1616...very very high and not normal at all. I was told she would research it and would get back to me with any info and or any possible treatments.  Have you ever heard of this? WHat can I do or give him to make him comfy.

Answer
Hello Jose,

Wow that is a very ver high blood glucose.  Do you have a copy of the blood tests that were done recently?
Hyperglycemia can happen, but glucosuria is not noted until the hyperglycemia is persistent.  I would have them retest it shortly.
If so, I would like to see a copy of them if possible.
Did he eat close to the time of the blood tests?  Do you feed alot of fruits?  Sometimes if they have eaten close to the time of a blood draw that will affect the readings of the glucose.
That sounds like to me his pancreas & possibly his liver are having some type of problem breaking down the glucose into glycogen.
Can you tell me about his tank setup?  Such as what type & brand of UVB are you using, a flourescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
What are the temps in the tank, & what type of thermometer do you use to measure the temps with?  A stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?
Has he always been yellow, or not?  What do his gums look like?  Are they pale, or healthy pink, or are they yellow like what jaundice would do?
To keep him comfortable, make sure that he cannot overheat during the day, & keep him well hydrated as well.  Are you trying to give some oral fluids right now?  Is his beard black all of the time then?
How old is he?  You are positive your dragon is a male?
