Rabbit - Excess Urination & Food Intake

22 11:18:28

Question
I have two house rabbits (M&F, Both Neutered) and I've noticed over the last month their food intake has nearly doubled (small amount of pellets, heaps of fresh vegies and hay twice a day). This does happen occasionally and as its winter here (Oz) thought nothing of it then I noticed that it was my male Rabbit that was the culprit.  Hes a 3 year old Lop, perfect weight, seems in perfect health but now eating 3 times his usual amount and with excessive urination (all clear) but not excessive thirst.  He hasn't increased his weight this last month, the exercise level is no different and his faecals seem fine but perhaps more caecals than normal.

Answer
Dear Nikki,

Copious, clear urine isn't a great sign, but it could just mean that he's drinking a lot in the summer heat.  The best way to know if something is going on with his kidneys, though, is to have a good rabbit vet take a blood sample and run a complete chemistry and blood panel to check for kidney and liver function.

You can find a good vet here:

Hope this helps.
