Question
My lop bunny is 6 years old. She has been sick for 5 years. My bunny has her front teeth. The other ones have been pulled out. The problem is that every 4=5 weeks the bunnys ears get hot and then I take her to the vet. The doctor then finds a tooth on the side of her mouth and then does surgery. An antibiotic is given and then she is good for 4 more weeks and then the same thing happens again. Why is this happening? Also Baytril is being used.

Answer
Has your vet ever cultured the pus from where the teeth were extracted to see what bacteria causes the infection, and also what antibiotics it responds to?  Also, is the antibiotic given for several weeks, or just once?

To be effective, the right antibiotic has to be given, and for an extended period of time.  Especially with rabbits with tooth problems, several different antibiotics may have to be tried until you find an effective one.
