whats wrong with BUTTERCUP?

Question
My bunny buttercup has something unusual on her back. There is one spot on her back where hair is falling out and attached to the roots is something like "dandruff".It is white clumps that looks like dead/dry skin. This situation is actually occuring all over her back (the dandruff) but you can only really see the effects in one place. I was wondering if you know what is causing the "dandruff". I actually looked at the clumps of dandruff to see if there was any mite that was causing it. I didnt see anything but could it be possible that the mites are microscopic? Do you think this is occuring because buttercup has dry skin? If so, would a shower cure Buttercup? Any information is valuble. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Leah,
sounds like Buttercup has dry skin...usually due to the cold weather and heat inside the house.  This shouldn't be serious unless you notice it starts to spread everywhere.  Mites are unable to be seen by the human eye, therefore you may want to get him checked out for them at your vets.
Otherwise supply him with lots of water, and give him extra treats like oats...this can help condition his fur and skin. You may also try mineral oil in the water...this will help keep the coat conditioned as well..also,you can apply some to the dry area on the back.
good luck,Elizabeth
