possible broken leg

Question
My vet doesnt have any experience with pet rabbits beyond general care.   Has never even heard of a rabbit with a broken leg being treated.  Im desperately looking for any online resources?   Patches was left at the vet's office last night to receive pain meds and xrays are being done this morning.   Her right rear leg appears to be broken right above at the "knee" bend (rear leg.  She was walking on the leash, bolted and it apparently tangled on her leg.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Femur fractures in bunnies are very hard to treat.  You will have to find away to keep the bunny immobile while the bone heals.  The most important thing you can do is to find a vet that actually knows how to treat rabbits.  It may be a several hour drive but it will be worth it in the end.

The best resource for finding a qualified vet is the HRS.  I am not a member but both Mr. Lee Meyer and Ms. Dana Krempels can get you information on qualified vets in your region.  I will give you a link that you can attempt to locate one.

The bunny will need pain control and it is very important that the vet know and understand what pain medications bunnies can be given.  It is almost impossible to splint a fracture on a rabbit but a very experienced rabbit vet is your best option.

I am so sorry that your bunny was hurt. He has a good chance of recovery with treatment by someone who is qualified.

Good luck
