Questionim a new bunny owner and i have a few questions..i have a male dwarf, just got him valentines day and hes slowly warmin up to me, but from what i understand i should get him neutered, hed be more calm and cuddly and not spray so much...hes about 5 months old..is it expensive?safe..does it make them calmer? also how do i get him more comfortable with me..i hear people saying sometimes their bunnies just come up to them and lay with them, and one more question..i wanna litter train him but i dont know how to go about that and whether or not hell try to eat the litter..
AnswerCongratulations on your new bunny, and for wanting to give him a long, healthy life.
I think a lot of your questions will be answered here - http://www.rabbit.org/care/new-bunny-index.html This talks about spaying and neutering, litter training, what to expect in the first few weeks, things like that.
You will want to find a vet who has done rabbit neuters before, there is a list at http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabvets.html Call around, ask them what it costs, and how many the vet has done. Neutering is in general a very safe operation. And after he has recovered fully, in 2-4 weeks, he will quit spraying.
Since he is so young, he is going to be more interested in exploring than in cuddling, just like a puppy or kitten. After he becomes an adult, he will not be quite so curious, and hopefully by then you will have a routine you are both comfortable with established.
Good luck!
