Rabbit callouses on paws

Question
My son just recently got a 4 yr old rabbit. The vet says she has a build up of calluses on her paws because her previous owner left her in a wire cage so much. Is there any cream or salve that can be put on her paws to soften them or help remove them?
Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi,

well, not that I know of.  Anything you'd put on her feet she would probably just clean off.

Best thing you can do is give her very soft bedding to be on when she's in her cage (whenever she is in there).  I suggest synthetic sheepskin bedding, or medical pet bedding from Palace Pet Bedding.  Both are washable, and you can, with a brush, after washing and drying on a light setting, use a comb or brush and fluff them back up.

The only other thing that would make a difference is if she is overweight, to reduce her higher calorie items and increase hay, and increase exercise time out of the cage to get her to lose weight - this will put less pressure/force on the feet.
