Question
QUESTION: Dear
Hi i just bought bunny ( they are caramel and gelato, and just recently pola )about 1-2 months old from the market. And i only fed them with greens so i don't provide them with water. and the poop is okay. is that okay? because my friend bunny ( she bought at the same place as i am ) fed her bunnies with greens and provide water and then they get diarrhea. and few days later they died. please help.  i'm confused. i don't want anything bad happen to my babies. thank a lot.

ANSWER: Dear Elisabet,

Rabbits must be provided with clean, fresh drinking water at all times, even if they get greens to eat.  Water does not cause diarrhea.  Imbalance of the intestinal flora causes diarrhea, and you can read about how that happens and how to prevent/treat it here:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/poop.html

Please read this article for instructions on how to provide a healthy diet for your bunnies so that they will live long and happy lives:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/diet.html

and for all the best information on proper care of your rabbits, please visit and read the articles here:

I hope this helps.

QUESTION: Dear
Hi, this is me, Elisabet again. I'm sorry for bothering you again.
I tried your suggestion and their poop kinda wet and it stick to their rear, and not black, hard ball. Is that still normal? and can rabbit bathe? if can at what age they can? and how i can clean those sticky poop?
Thank you very much.

Answer
Dear Elisabet,

Runny/mushy stool in a baby rabbit can be very dangerous, so be SURE to read what I sent you before so you will know what to do and when to get him to a vet.  PLEASE READ:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/poop.html

If the poop is sticking to the bunny's bum, it's not normal.  The food could be to blame, so do check the bunny's diet, as I suggested before.  Read this to know what a healthy diet should be:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/diet.html

A rabbit should never be bathed, as it can be so stressful that it causes illness or even death.  PLEASE READ:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/buttbath.html

for instructions on keeping your bunny clean if he gets a little bit dirty, especially around the bum.  But if you see real runny stool, you must get him to the vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

and not spend time bathing him.  He could need medical treatment for intestinal parasites or other problem, if this problem continues.

I hope this helps.
