pet rabbit w/ inoperable tumors

Question
Our vet diagnosed 3 abdominal tumors, probably cancerous, in our 6 1/2 yr. old dwarf female, Layla. Vet doesn't think they're uterine, because it's more than two & doesn't think she would survive surgery.  She's been losing weight & has "arthritis" in back legs for past few mos. We want to give her natural supplements & have been searching the Net, w/ little result.  Learned we can give vit. C, but don't know amt.  Still have some trace minerals & Hemotox from "The Rabbit Medicine Chest" but they seemed to have gone out of business.  Can you tell us of any plant, vitamin, herb or supplement that is safe for rabbits & may help her immune system?  Thanks so much.

Answer
Dear Claudia,

The first thing I'd do is find another rabbit vet and get a second opinion, to be very sure there is no way to address this surgically.  You can find a good vet here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

The "arthritis" could be a side effect of the tumors pressing on nerves, but more diagnostic tests would be needed to determine that.

The only herbal I know that might help boost her immune system is echinacea extract, which you can get at any good health food store.

I hope this helps.
