Rabbit stopped eating his food pellets

Question
Our 12 year old miniature rabbit has stopped eating the regular Oxbow food pellets we buy from Nebraska.  He still is hungry for treats and hay, but is getting  thinner by not eating the rabbit food pellets.  The stools are also looser without the pellets in his diet.  We tried a new brand of pellets from our local pet store, but it did not make any difference.  Fur is healthy and eyes are still bright.  A few months ago when he had a brief intestinal slow-down, we coaxed him back to eating with banana slices;  but that has not helped this time.  Any ideas how we can get him to start eating the rabbit food pellets again?

Answer
What a grand age for a rabbit.

It's a shame no one has come up with a formulated diet for older rabbits that are easy on the kidneys and help keep them at a good weight.  But here's some things to try.

1.  you'll have to get it from a vet, but Oxbow critical care might entice him and it might help him put weight back on.

2.  There are some recipes you can try.  There can be a bit of trial and error to find something to work.  And sometimes rabbit's like one recipe one day then don't want to eat it the next.

But here are some recipes you can try.  And maybe you can substitute banana baby food as the filler to try and firm the stools up.

If you can't find some of the probiotics or acidophilus, don't stress over it.  The key is to find something he'll want to eat.  You can always tweak things later.

If none of these really work for him, I'd take him to a vet to see if something health issue is causing this problem.
