Male Dwarf Rabbit

Question
Hi, I am the owner of 2 dwarf rabbits, and we thought they were both boys. However we had to take one of them to the vet and they let us know that one of our "boys" was a girl, and that she was pregnant...I have been unable to find any advice online as to how the male will respond to the babies once they are born? I am able to keep them separated if necessary, but thought it best to check first.

Answer
Hi Natalie....We do not breed here but my understanding from friends that are breeders is that they do separate the male prior to birth.  I have seen some bucks be indifferent to the babies but some have harmed the babies.  Better safe than sorry.  I would suggest separating them.  Unaltered male dwarf rabbits tend to have some "rabbitude" and can be aggressive.  And if you have never experienced baby rabbits before....they are quite different than other animals.  Do your research regarding providing nest boxes and be familiar with the way they are nursed.
