My Doe is becoming so heavy and drinking so much water

Question
My Holland Lop Rabbit, Cassie, just gave birth to her first litter on February 25th, 2010.  The two baby bunnies are doing well and seem really healthy.  The mother on the other hand is eating a ton of food, pellets, hay, hay cubes, greens, etc. and drinking more water than I have ever seen, about 20 ounces a day (almost a big hanging water bottle each day).  I am wondering if she could be pregnant again, because our other bunny wasn't able to be neutered until March 1st (appointment set in January).  We tried to keep them separated right after the birthing, but they were together for a few minutes in those few days.
I was also wondering if this drinking water is okay for her, and or if we should add a small bit of Vitamin Water or something to make sure she doesn't completely flush out all of her electrolytes.  Also she has had larger poops in the past week.  Her stomach is larger and protruding also.

Any advice you can give would be wonderful, thanks so much.  Kimberly and Cassie

Answer
Hi,

my best advice to you would be to take your female in to a good rabbit vet and habve her checked up.  Drinking that much water (too much) can kill people and animals just like dehydration can.

to find a good rabbit vet around you (not all are) start here:

www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

and find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.

And yes I would add some rabbit vitamin drops to her water (from a pet supply store).  I'd probably add more than they recommend since she has been drinking a lot larger quantities lately.

But you need to get her in.  especially if her urine output isn't matching her intake.  It sounds like it isn't, as what she's probably putting on is water weight and the kidneys may be having problems processing the excess water.  Please get her into a vet immediately.  It is a very serious condition.  The excess water is putting a lot of extra pressure on her internal organs and making it harder to breathe.
