Rabbit tick

Question
Hi Dana. I found a tiny loose tick on my rabbit's fur this morning. I removed and killed it and looked for other ticks. I did my best to search extensively with a fine-tooth comb but couldn't find any.

I am a bit worried and very concerned. It's our first tick experience. :( Is Selamectin necessary (even if it's just one tick)? Do you think I should go to the vet to be 100% sure he is parasite-free? Also, are there natural rabbit-safe ways to repel ticks/mites/fleas?

Thank you very much!

PS
The tick was like this (size and appearance):

Answer
Dear Yumi

I think you might want to call your rabbit-savvy vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

and let him/her know about the tick.  If there is Lyme disease endemic to your area, your bunny could be at risk.  This would be rare, but it's something to be alert for, in case bunny starts to act sick.

Where there's one tick, there could be more.  So it would probably be wise to ask about getting bun some selamectin, just to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps.

Dana
