Pale rabbit

Question
Hi,

I have a five-year-old male bunny. He is currently not
showing any signs of illness, however, I have observed that
he's paler than usual. His ears(outside & inside), eye(rim),
nose and lips are usually a bright pink. Now, the ears and
eye rim are almost white and nose & lips are a very light
pink. Is this something I should worry about? Could this
mean he's anemic? He eats and poops well and is his usual
self otherwise.

We don't have rabbit-savvy vets here in India, hence, I am
writing in. My mom observed how pale my bunny looked today
and suggested that perhaps he needed deworming. Is anemia
suggestive of worm infestation?

Also, you should know that he recently( 4-5 months ago) had
a bout of coccidiosis and was treated with Amprolium. He has
been fine since.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Dear Keerthi,

You need to get your bunny to *any* vet to check his blood and prescribe treatment, as necessary.  Anemia can be a sign of many things:  flea infestation, intestinal parasites, renal disease, cancer...the list goes on.  Without knowing the cause, you cannot treat.

I hope you can find a vet via the international listings here:

Hope your bunny will be treated and well soon.
