Question
hi! my rabbit is a 2 year old purebread dwarf lop eared bunny. today he was acting a little strange when i gave him his dinner.. i hadn't been home most of the day so i'm not sure if it was a longer time than i noticed but he wasn't reacting to me, didn't eat, and was unusually inactive. he was sprawled out in his relaxed state but in his little box which he has never done. i checked him over, tempted him with treats he loves, tried to get him to move around, had a listen to his tummy and i heard some gurgling. he just seemed tired almost.. i got very worried because i know it's not normal for rabbits. so i looked up some 24 hour vets and kept checkin on him and about half an hour later he perked up and has been more active than i've almost ever seen him in a while so i decided against bringing him to the vet. he started eating his hay and started on his pellets some time later. i was just wondering.. do rabbits sometimes just get lazy??? im going to keep an eye on him tonight and keep checking him tomorrow but he seems crazy energetic now.. im' not sure what happened.

Answer
Hi,

If he had louder than normal gurgling in the stomach he probably had gas pain which caused his behavior.  As long as he is eating, drinking and producing fecal pellets he probably feels better.  However you may want to have him examined by his regular vet to try to figure out what caused the gas pain to begin with.  It may possibly be something in his diet or an underlying problem that you can't see.

Good luck

Pam
