rabbit chewing

Question
Hi, I recently put together a wooden house for my 10 week old male bunny. Unfortunately, he seems to enjoy chewing it more than sleeping in it. It is mostly untreated pine, so I'm worried he will get sick of he eats too much of it. He's always had lots of other stuff to chew on (cardboard, safe wood, timothy hay). I've taken it out of his cage for now because I don't want him to get sick. Is there any way I can stop him chewing on it? Maybe I could spray something on it that bunnies don't like the smell/taste of?
Thank you!

Answer
Hi,

untreated pine is safe for him.  Rabbits are able to eat wood okay.  In the winter wild rabbits eat a lot of bark.  And your guy won't eat the house forever, once he rounds off most of the sharp angles he won't nibble on it so much.

But it's okay for his gut, it's high fiber and will still be okay for him.  That's one of the good things about untreated pine, it's great for them if they wnat to nibble on it.  It just has to be untreated.

You can also give him safe wicker balls and tents and tubes from Busy Bunny.  Your local pet supply store may carry them.  They love nibbling on that as well as resting under the tent or in the tube, and they can eat part of it while enjoying it.
