Thinking about owning a miniature pig

Question
I have been doing a lot of research on owning a pig.  I have a 5 pound yorkshire terrior though, and I am wondering if they would get along or if they would be doomed from the start due to Spencer's (my Yorkie) jealous nature.  By nature, Yorkie's think they rule the roost but he gets along with other animals when he is used to them.  What do you think?

Answer
Every pig is different, with their own personality. Sometimes dogs and pigs do live together peacefully. Other times, not. Dogs are predators, pigs are prey, and the two species don't "speak the same language".

A pig's natural behaviors can trigger hunting instincts in dogs. This is NOT the dogs fault (or the pigs)! It's hardwired into the dogs brains. The danger with a large dog is that the dog can easily kill the pig. With small dogs, the two animals could seriously injure each other.

Pigs need a social structure. Baby pigs know they are small and vulnerable and naturally are at the bottom of the ladder. But when they reach adulthood at age 2, the instinct to be "Top Hog" kicks in. A pig that got along well with the family dog as a baby may decide to start asserting themself over the dog, picking fights, etc.

If your dog is the kind of dog that must have the "Top" rung on the ladder, then I have to say that, in this case, a pig and the dog probably will not work out in the long run.
