Question
we have recently got a 5 week old pot belly pig and she nudges all the time and i have come to understand that they do that against the mommy pig's belly to get the milk from her nipple, but she does it even after she has drank at least 8-12 oz of milk that we've fed her. When she does this after she's ate does it mean she is still hungry? I don't want to feed her too much, but how much is too much for a 5 week old?

Answer
Hello,
I hear of this more and more and it upsets me terribly.
Your piglet was weaned too young.  She was not ready and this causes them to want to keep nursing their mother as well as other bad habits.
Your piglet should have had two to there weeks of being weaned and eating pig pellets before you received her!  Weaning a piglet or any animal means that they have had proper time away from their mother and other sibling to adjust and are eating properly on their own.
The behavior your piglet is having is due to weaning too young.  It may never go away.
TO EVERYONE OUT THERE SELLING OR PURCHASING PIGLETS.....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP SELLING THEM SO YOUNG!!!!!  THEY NEED TO BE WITH THEIR MOM AND OTHER SIBLINGS FOR A LONG AS POSSIBLE.  SIX WEEKS IS USUALLY A GOO TIME TO START THE WEANING PROCESS.  THEY SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO START EATING A PELLETTED PIGLET CHOW THAT HAS EVERYTHING THEY NEED.
AND ADJUSTED WELL TO IT BEFORE THEY ARE SHIPPED.
AIRLINES ARE NT SUPPOSED TO SHIP ANIMALS OF ANY KIND UNLESS THEY ARE ARE LEAST 8 WEEKS OLD!!!!
I AM CONSTANTLY GETTING CALLS AND EMAILS FROM OTHER BREEDERS CLIENTS AND MOST OF THEM ARE ABOUT THE SAME THING!!!!
BUYERS BE WARE!!!!!!!
PLEASE DON'T ACCEPT PIGLETS UNLESS THEY ARE AT LEAST 8 WEEKS OLD.
SELLERS.....STOP SELLING PIGLETS THAT ARR TOO YOUNG, NOT WEANED PROPERLY AND PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PIGLETS BEFORE SHIPPING!!!!!
