Question
a friend of mine has two of the mini pigs at a nursing home farm and were really not told how much to feed or what they can feed so they would not grow to fast can you help with some advise we are in victoria australia

Answer
Feeding pigs is more art than science. What works for one pig will not necessarily work for another. So these are just guidelines to start with. Let the pigs appearance guide you. If the pigs start to get too fat, reduce the portions, if they start to look too thin, increase the portions. If they start to have a general unhealthy appearance (keep in mind some perfectly healthy pigs look terrible when they are shedding their coats), try a different feed.

I don't know what brands are available to you, so look for something that is about 12% protein and 2 - 3 % fat. Pot-bellied pig food is ideal. Some brands of hog chow are ok. Complete horse feed (not "sweet feed", that has molasses) is good too and does not contain any animal products.

The general rule of thumb is 1 cup food per 50 lb of adult pig. For piglets under 50 lb, they should get about 1/2 cup per 20 lb of pig.
