Question
Hello. If a male Pot Belly is approximately 10-15#'s at 5 months old, what is the estimated, healthy weight for him at full maturity?  Is there a chart out there that estimates adult weight based on current weight and age?

Answer
The estimated weight for a fully mature pot-bellied pig is about the same as for his parents at full maturity. In other words, his size now doesn't matter too much.

A beagle puppy and a great dane puppy are both small, but one is going to grow quite large and the other is not. We can tell which puppy will grow large because we know which puppy had large parents. And we know about how big he will be, because we know how big the parents are.

A pigs genes and DNA dictate how large he will grow. The only way to determine that is to see what size his parents are at age 4. A healthy pot-bellied pig can weigh as much as 250 lb or as little as 100 lb.

If both of this baby's parents are 200 lb at age 4, the baby will be close to 200 lb at age 4. If his parents were 120 lb at age 4, then baby will be close to 120 lb at age 4.
