Question
I have a pot belly pig that is 11 months old and this is the second time I've had to treat him for mange.  It is a brown color substance on his skin and he loses his hair.  He is an inside pig and he sleeps in straw. What causes mange??  Thank You for your time!

Answer
Hello,
Pigs need to be wormed eery three or four months.
They need to be treated with Ivomec.  I treat them and then re-treat them again in 12 to 14 days.
That will ensure that the mange mites are are killed.
You should also change the bedding as mange mite can be airborne and re-reinfect your pig.
Good luck,
Patty
