Rattie not using front paw...

Question
Hi, my rattie, Wilson, stopped using his front paw, there doesn't seem to be
anything visibly wrong with the paw or the leg, no swelling or anything. I
think he has a mycoplasmal infection, with lots of sneezing and sometimes
noises when he breaths, I've been meaning to get him to a vet, but now that
he stopped using his front paw, I'm really worried, Could it have anything to
do with the breathing thing? I'm new to owning rats, so any advice would be
greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Lisa

Answer
Hi Lisa

For starters, congrats on owning rats. They are the nicest pets !!
I do believe Wilson may have twisted his paw at some point but not enough to cause visible swelling etc... Sometimes this happens and a day or  two later, they are just fine.  For now, try to keep Wilson quiet.  Dont let him walk around during playtime and keep his food and water nnr
However, I am concerned about the myco infection. Its important it is treated right away or it can turn into pneumonia and after that, lung scarring can occur.

Do you have a vet? If not, I would be more than happy to find one for you.  All I need is your zip code or location (city/state etc...) and I can find a vet that is well versed in rat care.  An exotic vet is the best.

Also, check out my website about rat care. You will find alot
of info on rats that you never even thought to ask about before.
I made this site with the new rat owner in mind.
