My new baby has a lump

Roughly an hour ago I discovered a hard lump in my baby rats throat, and recently i checked and it is now a hole with what appears to be puss inside.
What is this? Is was hard? now its gone and there is a small hole.

Answer
It is - or was - an abscess. Clean it very well and watch for any inflammation or swelling, or any more discharge. If it continues to be a problem, it may be a large infection that needs to be lanced and packed - usually they resolve themselves with just a little help from us hotpacking them and keeping it clean.
