lactulose for breathing problems?

21 17:28:59

Question
Very distressed rescue rat. Noisy breathing 24 hours. I am used to precise dosages of Baytril, Doxycycline, Azithromycin and others with precise mls specified.
I have been given Lactulose (1 drop twice daily) but paid for Ronaxan as well. Pharmacist says the Lactulose contains the Ronaxan (but not on the label). I am taking this up with the vet. Has my rat just been given a placebo? Does this happen?

Answer
Lactulose?  What in the heck for?

Lactulose is a laxative used to treat constipation.

Is the rat now off of baytril and the other drugs and just taking ronaxan?  This is not acceptable treatment if the rat is suffering from even mild to moderate respiratory distress.  The treatment needs to be much more agressive than just a tetracycline based antibiotic and something for constipation!

What other symptoms is the rat having?  Are you in the UK?
