Question
QUESTION: Hi Sandra!!
How are you?
I have a few questions about my ratty. Her name is mocha and she is a brown dumbo. And shes a big suck :P
But recently the weather has been changing drastically in days it went from snow to rain to snow and then to sunny. And since this weather has started to act up Mocha hasnt been feeling very good. Shes become very lethargic, sneezing a little bit and has some porphyrin staining around her eyes and nose. She isnt eating very much, but had a good tablespoon of Baby pablum and a little piece of cheese. She is still drinking and her stool is soft and a dark green colour. She hasnt been eating anything unusual or anything that she isnt used to. The newest thing she has had is 'tastey twigz' and they are colored pretzel type things, which is probably why her stool is green.
Could it just be the weather?
I am co=oping at the vet clinic so i will bring her in tomorrow i just want a second opinion. please and thank you =]
Talk to you soon!
Thank you for all of your help!!

ANSWER: Hi Teagan

I am hangin in there doing ok , thank you, hoping your doing the same!.

As for Mocha, all I can say is VET TIME!  I do not like when you have lethargy plus excessive porphyrin PLUS losing interest in food. That is a bit more than reacting to changes in weather, which, by the way, unless its summer time heat and the windows are open etc...there really isn't or rather "shouldn't" be any change in them at all health wise or other. That is more or less an old wives tale, if you know what I mean.  Just like they say if you go outside with a wet head you will catch cold. I have gone outside ON PURPOSE in the dead of winter with a wet head and never even had a sniffle.  Weather changes dont lower the immune system.  Maybe pollen in the air certain times of the year can cause a bit of a sneeze (or more) in humans, and some say it also applies to rats, although there has never been anything documented for me to really go on other than the word of a few people, some that are a bit paranoid than most.

This could have been said paragraphs ago,but you know me, talk talk talk.
So to sum it all up:  Little Mocha needs a vet just to be sure she is in A-one tip top shape.  Sounds like she may have something going on though that warrants a good round of meds.  Please let me know how it goes at the Vets!!

QUESTION: Hello!
I brough Mocha to the vet, they gave me some herbal medicine (Respirare) and i just put a little drop on her lips. They said it is allergies. this medication is working well already =]

i scared her this morning and it woke her up a lot! haha i felt really bad but it worked and got her moving a bit.

what do you think about those meds?

Answer
What do I think about the meds?  Never heard of it...but hey if it works, thats good.  As I said, I have heard that rats can have allergies esp in the spring when the pollen is going nuts, but never had anything concrete to go by to make it a real diagnosis.  Cant say its not possible though and if she is getting better, it must be so.
