Question
I adopted Templeton last October from a family that didnt have time for him. They said he was a year old, but I know he was older...he's probably 2. A week ago he had his eye removed because it was falling out in pieces (and he didnt act like anything was wrong!) His eye has healed amazingly, but 2 days after surgery he had diarrhea and he would only eat when I hand fed him. I chalked the diarrhea up to the anesthesia and his new diet of baby food and anything soft. He can drink from the water bottle on his own, but he wasnt doing it as often as I liked. I thought he just liked being babied and thats why he would not eat hard food so I stopped the baby food, gave him nutra-cal (just in case he wouldnt eat the hard food) and wet tail medication. He started getting a rash on his tummy and the vet said to just use cornstarch and water, but I noticed the entire abdomen and scrotum were swollen and the sores were really thick. He went to the vet today, she said it was urine burn and told me to use puppy pads and make sure he was moving, she gave him an antibiotic, too. I have him here at work to keep an eye on him and he is having trouble breathing because of the poryphrin coming out of his nose....is there anything I can do to help his breathing or should I just let the antibiotics run its course?

Answer

Santana my one eyed bo

I am a bit confused about why he is having troubles post op.  What was the cause of his eye falling out in pieces in the first place? Did he have infection?

My boy lost his eye due to infection and he spent about 3 days at the clinic after his enucleation and I brought his brother along for moral support.  LOL   Santana did awesome with the surgery and recovery and in fact did not notice his eye was missing. He is stilll doing well a year and a half later, too.

Anyhow, does he now have a respiratory infection?
