Respitorary in infection

Question
Hello Sandra. I have a male rat. He seems to have respitorary infection because he makes noises when breathing while he is sleeping and he sneezes alot. I have recently been giving him raw vegetables and fresh fruit everyday. Will this help him recover from the infection. Also will blueberries heal his infection if I give it to him daily. I seriously need help because I love my rat but don't have enough money to take him to a vet.

Answer
I am sorry, but there are no antibiotic properties in foods that are capable of overcoming a respiratory infection. More than likely he has mycoplasmosis and if not treated properly, it will cause lung scarring, bistering, collapsed lung and eventually lead to his death. He needs a vet. There is no easy way around it, unfortunately.
