Question
Hi Sandra,
I have two male Dumbos, lewis and clark, and they are about 9 months old. They've gotten along really well, but for about the last week or two they've been fighting a lot. They are constantly fighting and I can hear them screeching. They haven't drawn blood or anything, but I'm still worried. Will this go away? What should I do?

Answer
PUBERTY!   This is pretty common with males when they go through puberty which is the age they are now, between 8 and 10 months of age. This is when you need to watch for aggression.  Screeching is normal.  My two boys used to go at it at night and would set off the glass break detector from our security system. The darn system thought someone was breaking glass to break in but it was the rats screeching during their fighting!!!!    It should go away, but if they start to cause serous bites, someone needs neutered by a very reputable vet.
