Hairless Rat Questions

Hi Sandra-
  My family and I have just purchased a hairless rat today. Sorry to say we did not do any research on rats, we just fell in love with him at the store. After researching today, We are going back to get a buddy for him.
Question:
I know from reading up on rats that they are sweet and cuddly...but Pinky(our rat) does not seem to be very friendly. Is that because he needs to get use to us as we do him or will he always be like this?
Also, we want to get a fuzzy rat for his playmate but do not want them to fight to prevent injuries to Pinky. Pinky is not huge but he is not a baby and at the pet store he was in a cage by himself. So, i'm worry about how he will interact with another rat. Any words of wisdom?

Do you know his age?

Also, he needs time to trust you. Lots of it. If he is a teenager or even an adult this makes it more difficult for him to bond but it will happen. Rats love their people and once they start to trust them its a lifelong bond.   He should get along well with a furred rat but again age is a huge factor.  Does he bite?  What do you have set up for him as far as a play area goes?  Read my website and the GETTING STARTED page on how to set up a play area and this way you can give him a secure play area to exercise and interact with you.
