Pet rat paw injury care

Question
Mathilda had her front paw bitten by her cage-mate during a wrestling match. This was 2 days ago. The paw has since become a dark pink and somewhat swollen. I have tried cleaning it with antibacterial soap and warm water, and have separated her and Rufus. She can walk on it and use it, but when sitting, tends to keep it pulled up close to her. She initially gives a squeak when I try to check it out, so it is probably a bit sore. She eats and drinks the same as she did prior to the injury, and acts no differently with sleeping/playing patterns. She seems as alert as ever. Is there anything I can do to help her paw heal, and help her discomfort? Should I be worried about an abscess? Is there any at-home treatment I can give? My local vet wants $40 for a visit, and said it could run upwards to $200 if it is infected. I cannot afford that right now. Please, any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Try soaking it in hibicleanse. You can buy that from the drug store. Also, put some neosporin on it. She may lick it off but if you can keep her from doing that even for five mins. thats good enough to allow it to penetrate in to help.  Also, you can even use normal saline solution and saturate the area a few times a day with it, and apply the ointment. If the swelling gets worse or involves her bone of her forelimb, that is when prompt medical attention is needed, but I think she should respond well to just doing what I suggested. It may take a bit of time. Bites can be nasty.   As long as she is acting ok, even if she is nursing her paw, eating and acting normal is what I am looking for and if she is doing this, its all good.
