ill rat

hi, one of my 3 rats died last week he was just over 3 years old. I went and fed him at the night time as usual, he was climbing round his cage and playing and taking food from me, then the next night i went to him and he was laying on his side with his head hanging out his house, his breathing was very laboured i went to pick him up and he was bleeding and what i can only describe as his bbody was disintergrating, it was awful and he passed away very soon after. Ive never seen anything like it and am desperate to know what this is that can strike so quickly and kill.

Either way let me know, I believe I know why your old boy died.  However, be glad you had him till he was 3. This is an old age for rats to get to and its not always the normal life span. You did a good job keeping him happy and healthy since he lived this long!!
