Question
We just recently got our pet rats. They are  weeks old right now. We have had them for 4 days and noticed that one of them was being really lethargic. When i was holding him to try and see what was wrong he urinated a stream of urine that was bloody. it actually looked just like blood not urine at all. He is still being very lethargic and am wondering if maybe i should separate him from the so far healthy one??

Answer
No, dont upset him by taking him from his cage buddy,he is not contagious, but he needs a vet right away.  He possibly has a urinary tract infection and needs antibiotics.  DO NOT return him to the pet store.  Chances are they will either put him to sleep when he can easily recover or toss him in as snake food. If anything, have the vet send the bill to the pet store where you bought him. Simply tell them they sold you a sick rat and you want the money back you spent at the vets OR you will report them to the local animal welfare group for selling a rat with an infection to you. Poor baby boy! He needs to see a vet as soon as tomorrow.  If you need names of vets that see rats, please let me know your location and I will give you some names.
