my rats tail

QUESTION: hi i was wondering if u could help me out i have a male rat and his tail got shut in the door and it looks a little bent at the end and he keeps squealing every time he licks it. hes in the cage now and hes very quiet and wont leave his tail alone im a bit worried and the vets are not open till monday...thanks jane

Your rat needs to see a vet, which I see  you plan on doing this or may have done it already. Please let me know how he is doing.

QUESTION: hi thanks for replyin im sorry i over reacted on his injuries he only had a graze in the end i think i panicked to much but he is back to his old self again now thank you very much for your advise jane

Thats ok if you panicked.  Its better to be safe than sorry.  If the end seems black or dried up, this is necrotic tissue and this means that tip may dry up and fall off, which is ok if this occurs.  Please keep it super clean using saline solution and warm water and also apply anti bacterial ointment on that tip. Its ok if he licks it off so dont worry because it wont hurt him if he does. If anything, it will simply make his stools softer from the ointment.
