Question
okay, my girls (6 wks.old) keep wanting to potty in the corner that their water bottle is hanging in; I have placed a rock underneath. I did a thorough cage clean today and put h2o in other corner where they seem to be going potty. STILL they want to potty under the bottle. I removed the rock %26 smelled it - POTTY smell.
Now what do I do? I removed the rock and placed it in the toilet area, placing a new fresh/clean rock under bottle. The rock is intended to help keep their nails down.
Help.
thanks, La

Answer
Toss the rock. This is just talk among the rat groups, it doesnt do a bit of good but take up space.  Your overlooking the perfect opportunity to litter box train your girls. Find a new place for the water bottle and put a litter box in the corner where they are going to the bathroom.  Remove the rest of the litter/bedding from the cage floor and keep the litter ONLY in the litter pan.   Please read over sandyscrittercity.com and refer to the page on litter box training for further info and more detailed information.
