Question
Recently i bought a male superb parrot from a local pet shop, he is 4 months old. He is with me for 3 weeks now and all is well except for one thing, every morning I place his cage outside for him to enjoy the day and he always  starts screaming with a real ear piercing tone, over time I understood that this is normal, the real problem starts when I have to put him inside the house again, he starts jumping to the cage bars and screeching constantly meking everybody in my house go nuts! He only stops if I isolate him for a few minutes in a room with no windows...I don't like to isolate him, I don't want him to stop trusting me because of that. Any ideas? Is it normal behaviour?

Answer
Hello George and thank you for your question.

Your parrot screams so much when you bring him back inside because he wants to be free.  Remember that cages are actually for the convenience of people.  Birds in the wild do not have cages, therefore they can fly around freely.

The best thing that you can do is to not set his cage outside.  He still has some wild instincts, and setting the cage outside brings out these instincts.  It is normal for parrots to scream, and yes, they can be quite loud.

If you want him to be able to see the outside, then it is fine to put his cage near a window so that he can see the outdoors.  My birds all enjoy it.

By doing this, he will still trust you, and he will also get the stimulation from the outdoors.  Just make sure that there are no drafts around the window that you put him in front of so that he doesn't get sick.

Also remember that a bird has to do some screaming to keep it's lungs healthy.  This is a natural instinct for them.  That is how they call their mate, their offspring, and warn preditors.

I hope this answers your question.

Good luck and God Bless.
