african grey strange behavior

Question
I have an african grey about 14 months old.  Just a few days ago he began this strange behavior.  He has always been very friendly and would come to me willingly and always enjoyed having his head scratched.  A few days ago when I approach his cage, he runs to the back of the cage and screams as though he is scard to death.  I have offered him treats and have tried to talk to him but it does not seem to help.  The only thing that is different is he used to have a plastic water bottle that he pecked a hole in and I replaced it with a glass bottle.  Do you have any idea what could be causing this behavior?

Answer
Hello Cindy and thank you for your post.
It is possible that your bird does not like the glass water bottle and is letting you know this.
Birds are funny, the slightest change in their environment can make them act strange.  I've seen my own birds totally change their attitude because I moved a picture from one shelf to another, or I've simple changed to positioning of their cage.  Birds will freak out at the slightest change that we don't think twice about.
Try putting another plastic water bottle in his cage again  (You can try the glass one again later on down the road) and see if that makes a difference.

Good luck and God Bless.
