African Grey is hoarse?

21 16:20:26

Question
Hi -
I have just moved from the US to Senegal with my African Grey.  He seems fine - but sounds a little hoarse!  He has one loud sound (I call it the bad sound) and it is definitely hoarse.  Even other sounds are a bit hoarse.  Otherwise, he seems fine - eating, not lethargic.  It's dustier here...could it be an allergy?  My husband thinks I'm a worrywart and he's just changed his sound - but I don't believe it.
THanks very much.

Answer
Take him to the vet. It can possibly be strep throat (yes, birds can get that.) Also, the fumes from the airport (you can't smell them, but even tiny things can affect birds) could have caused some lung issues. I doubt it's an allergy, but it can be caused by a difference of air quality. You can try getting an air filter (Honeywell true HEPA is my favorite) and see if that helps anything.
