blue & gold macaw

Question
I have a 2 year old +/- I think male macaw.  At times his face is red/pink.  It looks like he is blushing.  It is not always like that. There are days its white or may be light pinkish.   Everything about his mannerism is the same as it always has been.  He's a sweet bird.  He eats well.  Could it be something he needs to eat or not eat?
This is my first macaw - I've had an amazon parrot before.

Answer
Welcome to the world of Macaws! Wonderful creatures, very smart and yes, they blush.  It's perfectly normal and it can be the result of overstimulation (playing really hard) or lots of input.  Sometimes we can get our girls to blush just by looking at them in a certain way.  The larger macaws (Blue and Golds and bigger) are more often 'blushers', though all macaws can blush.

As long as it's not lasting and goes away, your buddy is very likely fine.
