Question
My eldest female mouse has an abscess and i am draining it as ordered by a vet and i currently have her separated from the other 3 mice and she is on tetracycline. would be it be okay to allow her to be around the other mice if they are both on the tetracycline? I just feel really bad about leaving her alone when i know how sociable female mice are and i do not want her getting depressed so i dont know what to do.

Answer
Dear Sara,
thank you for your question.
sick mice should never be separated from their group, that's just additional stress for them. Even when they have something contagious, by the time you notice it, the whole group probably has it anyway. An abscess is absolutely no reason to keep her separated.
If you give the antibiotic with her water, I would recommend offering it in another way. You can put the dosage she need into the fur on her head or offer it with coconut milk or cream or baby food. Check with your vet if the antibiotic can be given with cream, some antibiotics are neutralized when given with milk products. That way, you also have a much better control over the dosage she takes, offering it with water is very unreliable.
I hope I was of some help to you
