Question
I have had my 8 year old iguana for 5 years now.I got her as a rescue from my vet she had been mistreated and abandoned.I had lost my 11 year old female 6 months ago and really wanted another but not a baby.
She has been spayed and has never had any problems ,always eats well and her poop seems to be healthy.I just retired and wanted to ask this question before taking her to my vet.She has not lost weight and seems normal except she only eats treats I give her to try to emcourge her to eat. I know how to take care of iguanas and am not concerned that I have been doing things wrong-I have noticed a very small bruise on her side but (VERY) thats all I can see.She ate 3 rasberries yesterday but no veggies or any othr real food. This has been going on for abt a week and a half. She eats a little sometimes. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Val,
I have one that does exactly what yours is doing.  She does it every year starting in the spring and will do this til about July/August and then goes back to normal.  A few things that mine will eat that yours may also eat are... Holding whole collard greens for her to tear apart, RepCal Adult iguana pellets, soaked til they are soft 1/2 way through(a good way to get needed nutrition also) sprinkled on top of cut up greens, of course watermelon and a few other fruits..oh and also green beans that I hold for her.  The greens and beans are fresh picked.
I've gotten to the point that I no longer worry about it..she looses a little tail girth but thats it.  I've tried getting her Vitamin B shots which did help a bit, so its an option you might want to try.  I've also given a liquid Vitamin B complex, again, it may or may not help your ig. Also offering some human grade acidophilus.  I get the capsule form and use one capsule for two days...generally offered 4 days in a row..again, may help, may not.
If you are able to get her outdoors in the real sunshine it may also help with her eating.
Basically, its a guessing game and all we can do is to try different things and hope for the best and not worry about them unless they start to act ill.
