Questionhi....my sow just had 4 pups and i was wondering
when is it okay to part the pups from their mother permanently?

thanx for your time!
AnswerHi Cicilee,
Boys need to be taken away from females at the age of 3 weeks. If you need help sexing them, check out www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm or ask your vet to check them before they reach 3 weeks of age.
Sows can also be taken away from mum at 3 weeks, but it is advised that you keep the girls and their mother together for a little extra support and security. Boys will be fine if you put them together, but they can impregnate females ta 3 weeks so they need to stay well away from females at all times (no playing together at all) from the age of 3 weeks onwards.
Best Wishes,
